The Top, Not The Bottom – The Proviso!

•September 4, 2017 • 1 Comment

You’re the head, not the tail.

I have had this scripture (mis) quoted at me all my born-again days – and really I got a bit tired of it.  I didn’t know it was being misquoted, I mean I would go and have a look at it and I would read like I was told it – not how it’s really written, not how God is actually saying it.

I got a bit tired of it because I believed it like it was a magic wand – we’re the head and not the tail, or I’m the head and not the tail – so why did I not see it materialize in my life?  Why was I not at the top and not the bottom in so many situations?

09.04 proviso BLOGIt’s because I wasn’t reading the promise in it’s entirety – I wasn’t giving any attention to the proviso!

The Lord WILL make me the head and not the tail, provided I PAY ATTENTION to what and how THE LORD is leading my life – OK, I’ve translated it into “New Testament” speak – but that’s it in a nutshell, we WILL be at the top and not the bottom as we grow used to and follow the leading of God, Father Son and Holy Ghost in our daily ride in this life!

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NIV)

The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.

I am so glad to do it His way – not completely there yet, even after all these years, but, I love working on it!

God is amazing!

Make Known!

•August 2, 2017 • 1 Comment

This was a scripture of the day notification on my phone!

Psalm 105:1 (NKJV)

Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!

It just struck a chord with me.  It’s simple . . .

08.02 make known BLOG

  1. Give thanks
  2. Call on His name
  3. Make known His deeds among the people!

A thankful heart is the center of a really nice persona!

Calling on His name, to take care of your day, your life, your loved ones, your church!

AND . . . make known His deeds among the people of your life!

I hear people quoting chapter and verse AT people, thinking, “well this will show them my God!”  Well no it doesn’t really.  If the person is not a believer, it all sounds blah blah blah to him or her.  You see . . .

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)

14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

. . . and if this is what God says – well you know where I’m coming from.

When we make known the great things (deeds) God has done for us the whole situation becomes different, it shifts, the information about God is passing through you, you have become heavens translator – your story becomes tangible, real and can penetrate the hardest of hearts.  God even goes so far as to say you story is weaponized!  Against darkness that is – not against your friend.

Revelation 12:11 (NKJV)

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Your stories of God’s involvement in your life are incredible.  Don’t think you need a degree in evangelism, you just need to be you!

Make known His deeds!

God is amazing!

Divine Order

•July 20, 2017 • 1 Comment

. . . once we’re believers we need to get something happening – the divine order of how things work with God!

It was, and still can be one, of the hardest resets of my life!

Romans 8 has so many nuggets of truth in it . . . and this one literally blows my mind.

Romans 8:7 (NIV)

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

So . . . if we do our lives through our minds (governed by our natural selves) we’re really not going to be led by God.

Romans 8 goes on to say a great deal about being led by the HOly Spirit / doing our life by and through the Holy Spirit!  It’s incredible, because He (the Holy Spirit) is incredible!

07.19 divine order BLOG

Romans 8:14 (NIV)

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

OK, once we get this divine order down – that is being led by The Holy Spirit, it means we truly are in the groove of being God’s children!  Amazing!

If we want to build the Kingdom of God and get people into His Presence and saved we need to be led, not by our natural selves, but by the Holy Spirit – i.e. Holy Spirit first then our minds next – voila “Divine Order”

Creation is waiting with bated breath!

Romans 8:19 (NKJV)

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

The planet needs strong leadership from people fully connected to God – right?

God is amazing!

Test Every Spirit!

•July 13, 2017 • 1 Comment

Not everything you hear is true!

Contrary to popular belief, not everything you get in your Google search result is true!

Not everything your hear in church across the pulpit is true!

Not every cool idea you have should be pursued!

Not every voice of negativity in your life should be listened to!

Not every voice of positivity is good for you!  (now that just sounds weird right!)     07.13 thoughts BLOG

I’m not trying to make anyone paranoid here – there is a way of testing spirits/influences real quick and soundly!

Scripture says . . . .

1 John 4:1-6 (NKJV)

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God;

Ok, how do we do that?  Well the scripture goes on to say quite a bit . . .

. . . because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that[a] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Essentially, God is all about guarding the influences in our lives, I believe we need to be smart, you know, use our minds to guard our hearts.  Follow God’s leading from this scripture.

If you want to be quick about your discernment of influences in your life . . . just keep reading the scriptures – Proverbs is huge and is dripping in wisdom.

Let’s do it!

God is amazing!

Thoughts!

•July 6, 2017 • 1 Comment

Where do they come from?

What combines to influence our thoughts to finally make a decision?

Why do we sometimes display such defense mechanisms from time to time?

What scares us?

What do we sometimes say “I just cant help myself?”

Is the brain just a storage cabinet of stuff that pops out our mouths or creates action or reaction?

Or . . . is there more . . . other influences?

God only knows right!  And He will tell you!  He’s awesome like that.

07.06 thoughts BLOG

Proverbs 23:7a (NKJV)

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

Are we meant to be stuck at these points of internal terror or insecurity – or held hostage by reactions that just pop out of us?

Heck no!  God has liberty for us all.  He will renew us, piece by piece, sometimes chunks at a time, sometimes a millimeter at a time – He really is incredible!

In Ephesians 5 scripture tells us that our minds can be renewed, by the washing of the “water” of the word . . . scripture!  It’s alive, it’s powerful.  Combine it with the Presence of the Holy Spirit – you will be liberated!  He promises!

This is a teaser “Thought for the Week” for Sunday’s service.

If God is for me? Is He?

•June 29, 2017 • 1 Comment

I just love this scripture!

It has rescued my heart and head in many a squirly time!

Impending storms, or existing storms in life will do a number on your head – if your human that is!  While that’s happening your (my!) ability to think clearly and concisely and hear from God will seem almost impossible!

If some darkly motivated people seem hell-bent on taking your life or peace away from you and have strategies to pull it off – grab this scripture and thank God – in fact I am putting another scripture in this blog to latch onto!

These scriptures tip the boat back up the right way and puts lead in the keel!  You can ride out the storm with God at your right hand – oh no, there’s another scripture for times like these!

Ok, enough of me . . . three powerful scriptures!

06.29 if god BLOG

Romans 8:31 (NIV)

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Isaiah 8:10 (NIV)

Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;
propose your plan, but it will not stand,
for God is with us.

Acts 2:25b (NIV)

“I saw the Lord always before me.

Because he is at my right hand,
  I will not be shaken.”

Destiny Allowed?

•June 22, 2017 • 1 Comment

I read a quote from Paul Louise Cole – “what you allow to define you determines your destiny!”

I’m so all over this in my “faith” walk with Jesus!

You “internally” is what God is focused mostly on – what drives you or holds you back from the inside determines your trajectory towards your destiny – good stuff or bad stuff, good destiny or bad!

Some can wear their pain, or hurts, or trauma, or struggle, or neglect, or abandonment, or fear, at most, like some kind of badge of honor, or at least carry it saying “well this is who I am!”  Which translated can say “this is what makes me who I am.” Like we have some kind of quirky affection for our damage or restriction – we may even give it a medical term as if that name was higher than the Throne of God!  I am not saying we shouldn’t love ourselves right where we are in God, in life, on our journey – however I am saying, lets get free of the things that hold us back that have a grip on us and hi-jack  our incredible destiny taking it to a destiny that is molded by restrictions and restraints.

To be honest, hell and/or this world we live in doesn’t really care – but God does!

Hell and/or this world doesn’t care if you get stalled in the waters of your life, adrift, becalmed, without direction or passion or faith!

But God does!     06.22 destiny BLOG

The Apostle Paul said something quite extraordinary to the church at Corinth

2 Corinthians 6:12  (NKJV)

You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.

Wow!  Restricted from what?  Their (our) goals, our walk with God, our full and uncluttered, unhindered destiny!

Paul goes on to list a few of their affections, according to what he knew of their lives.  Well, we can do a wee exercise ourselves – we can get in a place of quiet with God, and take a look at ourselves in His Presence.  You and God together can get some stuff sorted!  Look, most Christians at this stage would be yelling the words “it’s sin, it’s sin!”  –  that may not necessarily be true – but go for it.

Whatever you have let define you will determine your destiny!  Thanks Paul and thanks Paul Louise Cole!

God is amazing!

No Alarmists!

•June 8, 2017 • 1 Comment

Can we stop with being alarmists?  Please, just for 6 months?  It’s incredible!

So many people sounding the horn of alarm!  As if they have been appointed to be holders of the “holy grail” of truth (lower case for a reason!).

Can we stop with the fear driven responses to life please!

Can we stop with all the conspiracy theories please!

The over-reactions are overwhelming!

It’s creating contentions where there shouldn’t be any!

It’s stealing all the joy out of life!

That’s hell’s plan, leave it alone!

This is what God says!

06.08 belief BLOG

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

It’s time to believe “fear” is a spirit, it’s time to trust that God AND His sacred scripture is true and that fear is . . .

F (false),    E (evidence),    A (appearing),    R (real).

If something is going on that needs our attention, God will get our attention!  Then we just rise to the occasion and crank it up!

That sounds like “a sound mind” to me.

Maybe this is more the truth . . . F (face), E (everything), A (and), R (rise)!!  With God in the middle of your everything of course!

Because – God is amazing!

Belief!

•May 25, 2017 • 2 Comments

I loved one of Pastor Brian Houston’s Tweets today.

BELIEF:05.28 belief BLOG
– Determines your future
– Defines your mentality
– Decides what you put faith in
– Delivers your expectations!

I agree entirely with the above . . . AND . . . I just thought I would think on it for a while!

So . . . I like to reverse out scripture or spiritual principles from time to time and see what it looks like – you know, the promises of God in reverse!

So . . . If you’re believing your life is depressing then; that will determine your future will be depressing, it will define your mentality – you will be depressed, it will decide what you put your faith in – nothing, there’s no reason to, your money will be on . . . life’s depressing, and it will deliver your expectation that more depressing life is on the horizon and that I am guaranteed to get more of a depressing life, and yup, here it is!

You can insert all kinds of words into the above tweet from Pastor Brian, anything people are choosing to believing in – you will see the results quickly.  Why is that?  Because the tweet is based upon the principles of God.

Why not believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit – they have written their promises in blood!  Woah!  They will never abandon you, they will set you free from your bondage, they will exchange the heavy burdens you’re yoked to for a light yoke and stick some amazing heaven born supernatural stuff inside you that makes you the incredible person your were designed to be – in EVERY way!

Now that’s worth shouting about!!!!

God is amazing!
