In recent conversations about our immediate culture, with people from varied backgrounds, incomes and ethnicities, some key descriptive words keep coming up – one of them is “complacency” and I am not just saying complacency toward the church, faith and Jesus, it’s a cert that complacency is everywhere about almost everything by a huge chunk of people!

Definition of complacent?  Don’t really care much about anything or anyone.  Which leads to a feeling of “I’m just watching all this happen in front of me – I’m not really part of it!”  Like, you’re in the movie, but just to observe, not really taking part.

I think the “fired-up” and “motivated” really outstrip everyone else!  And so they should!

We could spend an age looking for the reasons for the complacency (and maybe we should at some stage) that breeds mediocrity, and sometimes I think people are mistaking that mellow complacency for “peace” but it’s not at all peace, not even close.  It’s depressing!

Let’s recognize our own positions on the scale of hot thru cold and ma10-hungryke some decisions.

Of course my focus is on people’s faith walk – is it hot or is it cold?  Am I complacent, or am I fired-up?  The Apostle Paul tells us to have sober judgment of ourselves – wise words, not often heeded in today’s “look-at-me – i this – i that” culture – but let’s give it a shot.

You see it took “faith” to get your/my soul saved right?  But why do we think we don’t need to use that faith muscle anymore – you know, after we used it to crash the Christian Born-again party.  WE DO!

Scripture tells us  . . .

Hebrews 11:6(a) (NIV)

And without faith it is impossible to please God,  . . .

And the scripture goes on to say that God rewards those that “earnestly seek Him!”

I don’t’ know anyone that would disagree that earnestly could be replaced with passionately, or determinedly, or fully focused, or wholeheartedly or . . . fired-up about “Him.”

Pleasing God is not to be undertaken on the basis of trying to keep a dictator pleased (like Kim Jong-un) so He won’t smite you – that’s not God!  True!  That is NOT God!  That’s the devil dressed up in a Jesus suit!

Pleasing God comes by using our faith muscle, you know, believing God for what He has for us, what He wants for us, for His anointing on our gifts and life, His power to navigate through life’s valley’s and immense Joy in the peak moments, and what Hebrews 11:6 mentions, the prosperity of health and wealth – the whole gamut of His Promises to His kids.

How do we get there?  Or back to “there?” We decide!  What?  Yeah decide!  DECIDE!  Make a decision.  Everything else follows a decision.  Decisions produce action, which give-way to traction, then momentum in any direction you have decided!

Today I decide to get Hungry – Hungry for God, Hungry for a life navigated by His leading and Holy Spirit – because it’s not going to be alien to me, it’s is going to be AWESOME in every way.

Yeah, this is my decision – today, I surrender and I am now HUNGRY!

God is amazing!
