Anything You Ask!

Over the years so many people have told me what God is going to do for them.  And quoted a bunch of scriptures to back them up.  I do like to hear and cheer people on with their life vision and walk with God for sure, but . . . how does it work?  Will He do this for us?  Is He reluctant or excited about all this?  Is God Santa?

anything you ask

When I look at some of the scriptures people are quoting from memory, I find a couple of things.  #1 the scriptures being quoted are incomplete and #2, I find there are some conditions on receiving what God has for us . . . why do I say that?  Because in somewhere around half the scriptures we can quote from the New Testament about God  “giving” and us “getting” there is that sneaky word “if” or . . . a word similar.

I’m not saying God doesn’t want to respond to our requests – not at all.  Let’s take a quick look at a few of these amazing scriptures.

John 15:7 (NKJV)

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

OK, here is a clear “if” – if we abide in God, you know, stick close, hang out, be in the Word, walk our days with Him.  Awesome!

1 John 3:21-22 (NIV)

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.

OK, here’s a sneaky one – if our hearts are condemned we therefore have a confidence before God.  I know a lot of people that are Christians that are still involved in self condemnation – STOP IT – it steals your confidence!!

Mark 11:24 (NIV)

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Here’s a cracker!  (If you) believe that you have received it!  Now that’s weird right?  It’s weird like Hebrews 11 weird.  Believe you have received it BEFORE it arrives!

Matthew 21:22 (ESV)

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Last one from me . . . if you have faith!

In short God cant wait to be generous to us and His Promises are Yes and Amen in regard to it all.  So – Let’s follow His instructions and leading, do it His way, then watch it all unfold and happen!  AMEN!

God is amazing!
