2016: No Execution!

You know, we can have all the greatest intentions in the universe at the breaking point of any new year.  We start with our desire to see something important to us happen (a new years resolution – right?), we may write it down even, or share it with everyone at the great “ball dropping” (NYC) moment.

i.e. To lose weight, to stop smoking, to walk more, to build a new income stream, to invent that “thing” you sketched 10 years ago – that no one else has created . . . yet, to expand the business, to get a new job in line with who you really are, or . . . to get closer to God and discover who you really are, to read God’s word every day, to worship more, or to learn to play the bagpipes (agh!) and on and on.

The first part was easy – right?  It was born from your desire.    execute - new culture

Next . . .

OK, so one thing I notice people are not great at, comes next . . . to discover the steps you need to take, write them down and (every step requires a new decision) to actually “Execute” or action that step.

I know plenty of people that can load up a “tasks” driven app (Evernote, Outlook etc) with their stuff-to-do lists and loosely hope because they’ve stored them in a miraculously syncing-to-all-my-devices  modern day marvel, they’ll somehow miraculously get done!

No Execution!

I know people with the greatest of visions, and I will stand with them believing that that can happen.  But I will always ask . . . “so, what’s your next step?”

Fear of Failure can step into the picture right at this point and shut everything down.  Resist it – It’s a spirit, renounce it, rebuke it, revoke it’s rites to anything in your life in Jesus name – and push it back, you are coming through!  Then ignore it.  It may be around you, but it’s not “on” you.

Dale Carnegie was quoting saying . . . “Write down the things you’ve got to do – and do the most important first.”  This apparently changed his life.  Simple right?

He is also quoted saying, write down the six things you didn’t do today, and do them tomorrow.  Sounds like momentum to me.

The only thing I would put ahead of ALL this . . . is to Pray – like lay the vision, the desire before the Lord, make Him the CEO of it – then go do!

So in a large plan, large vision, large dream, you may not know exactly what’s next, so do some research – notice I said “some” – I say that because some people get stuck in this phase.  Hours and hours and days and days go by, ending in fruit salad  for brain cells and paralysis of vision.  In many ways mimicking our education systems . . . “educate and study to pass the test” not to actually achieve something.

Just get to actioning the next step as soon as you can – the wisdom of that step is found in the step itself – if you prayed!  Be ready to be fluid.  Remember you asked God to steer the ship right?  You see God said . . .

Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.

  • If you can’t imagine God getting delight from your success, you’ve got the wrong God.

Pray.  Take a step, see what God says.  No steps taken, no ordering (influencing / directing)!

And if this is truly what you’re meant to do, this amazing scripture comes into play!

1 John 2:20 (NKJV)

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

In verse 27 it goes on to infer if you abide in God, it is God who teaches you all things (in the anointing of the Holy Spirit – the great counsellor ), you needn’t feel alone, or dumb, or conspicuously “wanting”  – you have the Holy Spirit right!  Right?

Essentially . . .

Pray, Desire, Pray, Decide, Pray, Action

It’ll happen!!!

God is amazing!
