Change? Who Me? Are You Kidding!

The” Modern Day Gospel Seeker” – I am going to find a church that agrees with me – my stance, my theology.  I want this as easy as possible.  I don’t want church to disturb my personal momentum, my focus, my goals in life . . . I’ll do my duty, go to worship, chuck a few bucks in the plate, do my week my way . . . then repeat.  Just don’t ask me to change.

The modern day seeker is attempting to add God to him or herself, not bring his life to God and say “here take it, take me – I’m in for the ride.”

God didn’t send His Son to just get us into heaven – He sent His Son to bring perpetual change and growth – that morphing and strengthening is where we begin to find our true selves – our amazing life and purpose, as we evolve into the person we always hoped we’d be!  Amazing!

Where would we be if Paul (then Saul) just said to God “Heck no, forget it, I’m not changing!” – what would the gospels look like?  Actually probably a lot like a lot of modern churches that just go through the motions.  Nothing moves, nothing changes and that’s what people want – it’s the nature of man and the nature of the spirit of fear.     2105 - 10.22 CHANGE BLOG

Heck no, don’t poke me, I’m not changing . . . aka “I have arrived, I’ve got everything right where I want it, I am set in cement, I am kinda my own god, back off.”

Paul epitomized everything “change in God” represents!

1 Samuel 10:6  (NKJV)

Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.

He got shoved off his donkey, made temporarily blind, for what?

God said to (then) Saul, “you keep kicking against the goads!” – God kept goading Saul in a direction, subtle and not so subtle pokes from heaven – God’s desire to action some change in Saul (us) is where our true purpose lies.  I want it – we should all want it.  Why can’t we just say “bring it on!”

We can’t kick against the goads (God’s prods to direct us) and never bother look up to see the light and hear the voice!  If we do keep resisting, we leave our true purpose lying on the ground at those moments and walk away in our own blind  “care.”

Being fluid, teachable and changeable in God’s hands is paramount.

Philippians 3:12 (NKJV)

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

That’s Paul saying that – the one guy that has the rite to brag on his heritage and life.  But he didn’t, he understood God’s process in his life was on-going and incredible.

No-one has “arrived” – we can’t ever talk to an unbeliever like we have!

Why does the voice of the church in the media sound so judgmental!!!  I am so sick of loud, self-righteous christians (small “c” intended!) getting the microphone and inciting something Jesus never did!

For God so loved the world . . . RIGHT?

Check this out . . .

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 (NKJV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

We’re meant to be in the reconciliation business, not the “imputing of trespasses” business.

Let’s cast aside our fears, our righteous positions, our natural natures and allow change in God to happen – if we don’t, then who is going to do this “ministry of reconciliation?”

And when that happens, the voice of nasty cold religion will win the day, the month, the year and the church dies in the eyes of all mankind – because it’s failed to be the true church Jesus anointed and appointed with . . .

“The Ministry of Reconciliation!”

God is amazing!
