Looking Up . . . Who’s The Guide? 2013

Why are we so shocked when a celebrity or a football or basketball player (or similar) is found doing something very (morally, lawfully or behaviorally) wrong?

Talented celebs and fantastic football players got fame by generally doing one thing really well . . . OK  sometimes one or two things really well.

Then they do something wrong and we hear, “they failed their role as a public figure” . . . “they failed their responsibility as a role model” . . . and the whole world jumps onto a very nasty, judgmental bandwagon and publicly slaughters the person, morning TV, afternoon TV, Radio News, Sports Radio . . . a thousand deaths by a million tongues!

No . . . they just got thrust into the spotlight because they could do one or two things really well – they’re just ordinary people that are carrying an extraordinary talent or skill.

So . . . maybe the reason we expect them to be perfect is that we are hoping these people will raise our children for us, show them the way to live and breath, be morally sound and smile correctly – is that it?  Who’s raising our kids anyway?  TV?  Who’s showing us the “way” anyway?  Where do we get our “navigate-this-life” stuff from . . .  TV?  Movies?  Who?

TV and movies are written by talented scripts writers sitting in rooms, pounding the keyboards, aching over trying to find limits, hold our attention, keep pace going, when to kill, when to forgive, and finding new angles on something that may have been done dozens of times before . . . etc etc.  Are these guys our guides for life?

Do we get so vocal when someone falls from our expectations because we’re living vicariously through them

from our couches and “we wouldn’t have done that!”?

C’mon people let’s get real here.

We’re looking in the wrong directions, we’re placing burdens on the shoulders of men and women that only God can handle.

Let’s look up in 2013 . . . seriously, let’s step away from influences that have been mostly responsible for honing us, our culture, our kids and simply LOOK UP!

Proverbs 2:6 – 13 (NKJV)

6. For the LORD gives wisdom;  From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

7. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;  He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;

8. He guards the paths of justice,  And preserves the way of His saints.

9. Then you will understand righteousness and justice,  Equity and every good path.

Honestly Proverbs 2 is spectacular – keep reading it!!!   People pay big money to have this stuff spoken into their lives in seminars!

When we start to get this stuff from heaven “down” – we’ll unclutter our radar – then, we can see someone fall and actually pray for them, reach out to them, remove ourselves from the “death by a thousands judgmental tongues” brigade and actually be found doing and being . . . oooo should I say it, nah . . . . yes . . . all right . . . . People of The Way . . . yeah that’s right Christians!
